Why we love Mackenzie School of English
In 2018 Mackenzie School of English moved to a stunning converted former church in Leith. This unique area of Edinburgh in Scotland has become one of the most popular in the UK for adult students. The facilities are amazing, and the students have areas in which to relax and practice their new English skills with new friends from all over the World. The interior has been designed with studying and relaxing in mind but is also totally unique as a language school.
We visited the school and attended their launch party. All of the Mackenzie staff are SO friendly, from the Director to the reception team and teachers. Everyone mixes as one big family making the first few days really enjoyable and any arrival nerves disappear. The areas to share before and after class make it really easy to make new friends and to spend time with them in school before heading into Edinburgh to enjoy all the city has to offer.
Programmes at Mackenzie
Mackenzie offers tuition-only programmes, tuition with activities or specialist programmes to suit adults who want to make the most of their time in the amazing country of Scotland, UK. There are also various types of accommodation available and you can really get involved in the active social events arranged by Mackenzie.
Edinburgh is fairly small with only around half a million inhabitants and is very easy to get around. Local bus services are very good and it is really easy to get from the school to the City centre. However, Edinburgh city centre is best explored on foot and recently it became the first UK city to join the ‘Open Streets’ movement with traffic free days aimed at reducing air pollution. It is also a safe city and very accessible for travellers of different ages.
Visit the 2 main City areas, the medieval Old Town, and the Georgian New Town. The Old Town has the famous ‘Royal Mile’, which leads up to the Castle, and traditional narrow, atmospheric lanes called ‘closes’. Edinburgh is full of bars, restaurant (try Haggis!) and shops selling whisky, tartan and cashmere. By contrast, the New Town has large houses, offices and long-established hotels.
