Robotics in Canada with Burnaby School District

Canada is one of the most popular international destinations for students who want to study abroad. This stunning country has so much to offer. The Burnaby School District based in British Columbia, Canada, has become a popular choice for students looking for the highest quality academic programmes, including robotics.

The Burnaby School Model

Burnaby’s Community School model was established in 1976 as a result of a strong partnership between the school district and the City of Burnaby. Nowadays the Burnaby School District is recognised for its academic excellence and strong values including inclusiveness, shared resources, lifelong learning, neighbourhood-based action and sustainability. Today there are seven elementary community schools within the district and a secondary community school at Byrne Creek.

With a wide range of options to choose from including the English language, French immersion and various sports academies there are also other programmes which offer the most fantastic team-building and problem-solving opportunities for students. The Robotics programme at Bryne Creek is one of the most innovative and unique available in Canada.

The Burnaby Students Robotic Build

A recent competition saw a team of 10 students at Bryne Creek tasked with building a robot within only six weeks, following strict rules and with limited resources.  The team met every day after school to work on the robot. ‘The result was a 60-pound robot meant to simulate tasks that would be completed during a Mars repair mission’ and included a functional robotic arm, six wheels, four motors and a WIFI camera system to allow out of site navigation.

The team finished 28th out of 50, which was a great success as this was their first entry in the competition. Bryne Creek are looking forward to taking part in the competition again next year with a new group of their students.

Joining one of the innovative programmes with the Burnaby School District will give you unique opportunities like being involved in the big robotic build.
