Positive Vibes at Mackenzie School of English
Mackenzie School of English has had a fantastic couple of years. Their new premises has welcomed Adult students and Young Learners from all around the globe, all year round. But the most rewarding aspect for the team has been the feedback. A pristine new learning environment is great, but what Mackenzie School are really celebrating is a high level of client satisfaction.
What students think about Mackenzie School of English
Positive feedback regarding the staff, in particular, has been excellent.
One student said ‘It was a pleasure for me to attend your course. For me, it was an amazing experience. I want to thank your school staff, always friendly and available.’ Meanwhile, another declared ‘You all became part of my family; family of friends from all over the world.’
What partners think about Mackenzie School of English
A partner from a school in Germany who bring students to Mackenzie School every year summed up her reasons for returning ‘The lessons are pretty good; the teachers are good. The staff here are friendly and the organisation is great.’ And not limiting her praise to internal staff, she added ‘Being with hosts who are nice and friendly is a good experience which encourages them [to speak English].’
Mackenzie School work directly with their hosts, with the emphasis of them being ‘an extension of the team’. With over 150 hosts, this is not an easy task but this also seems to be going well, with hosts getting in touch to report that ‘Communication has been excellent’ and ‘The support and care provided to not only the students but also the hosts is amazing. You have the student’s best interests at heart and go above and beyond for them. Other schools should take advice from you!’
The secret to student satisfaction
As well as glowing feedback for the staff and hosts at the main school, the Summer residential centre at Merchiston Campus had a great season. This was of particular importance to Director Chris Moonie, who in 2017 made the decision to only enrol small groups and individuals at the residential centre. This was in order to limit the concentration of students with the same first language, eradicate the pack mentality which can sometimes occur with larger groups and improve the learning environment for all students.
This took a couple of years to fully implement but this Summer the results of this decision were so apparent. The benefits to the students were even greater than expected, with individual students feeling more comfortable in the absence of very large groups and the pack mentality that big, single nationality groups can sometimes create eliminated.
The nationalities were well represented across the board and nationality mix was the best it has ever been, with an average of 15 different nationalities on campus each week! Students were using English so much more, and due to this, they made friends very quickly and easily. Students, leaders and staff alike all reported a real sense of involvement and encouragement.
Mackenzie School are delighted with the success of 2019 so far and look forward to welcoming many more students from all over the world into their happy ‘family’ in future.
