Discover the International Peace Garden in Manitoba
Have you heard about the International Peace Garden located on the Canadian/American border?
The International Peace Garden is a 9.5 km2 park located adjacent to the International Peace Garden Border Crossing between Canada and the United States, in the state of North Dakota and the province of Manitoba. This is so much more than just a garden but represents a symbol of peace! There are also lots of opportunities to learn with the Conservatory, the Interpretive Centre, the North American Game Warden Museum and the serene Peace Chapel.
This really is an all-year-round attraction and is open every day with the exception of Christmas and New Year’s Day. One of the most memorable parts of the garden is its breath-taking landscaping which includes an 18ft Floral Clock with 3,000 flowers. In the Peace Chapel, there are three walls of fossil-embellished Manitoba limestone with quotations from “people of peace.” This really is something you won’t forget once you’ve seen it. It really symbolises what peace means to people across the world.
There is so much to love about the Peace Garden! Perhaps the most memorable thing to take away from a visit to the International Peace Garden is a poignant and moving reminder of the events of September 11 with a memorial displaying 10 beams from the World Trade Center in the formal garden. This is something that will not be forgotten!
Sitting on the border of both Canada and the United States, the Peace Garden welcomes visitors from either country to enter freely without passing through customs. However, the crossing stations for Canada and the U.S. are located on the roads just north and south of the access drives for the garden, meaning that all visitors must go through the immigration procedures upon leaving the garden. The International Peace Garden Airport is located to the east of the garden on the U.S. side of the border.
